Steam will launch regularly but this time you'll have a new option in the top bar called 'Console'. To follow this guide you need to have bought the Steam version of IV and/or EFLC before March 19th, 2020 (release date of the Complete Edition), all later digital purchases don't come bundled with a GFWL key! You can of course use these versions to play singleplayer, but if that's all you want then you can stick to the Complete Edition and use GTA IV Radio Downgrader and FusionFix to improve your experience. The aim of this guide is to give people an alternative way of accessing the original multiplayer component on PC without having to use mods or downgraders.

With the time the community developed multiple ways of downgrading the game and restoring multiplayer through GTA Connected or complicated GFWL setups, but I wanted to find a simple and legal way to access older versions with little to no modifications and, thanks to a Steam feature that I thought it was removed, I managed to do so.

On PC since 2018 it became progressively more and more difficult to preserve all the original content, it started with the soundtrack on IV's 10th anniversary and it continued in 2020 with the release of the Complete Edition where the biggest change was the unfortunate removal of the multiplayer component. I recently bought an old PS3 to replay these games in the way they were meant to be played and, while this version doesn't provide the best looking visuals / performance, it still has its original soundtrack and you can of course access the multiplayer. EDIT 15th June 2023: This guide STILL works with the newly updated Steam UI!
